A Celebration of Sadie Juliet Battle

January 1, 1933 – March 1, 2020

Sadie Juliet Battle, daughter of Jesse Monroe Patterson and Julie Annie Gilreath, was born January 1, 1933, in Kings Creek (Lenoir), North Carolina. She departed this life Sunday, March 1, 2020. She joined the Church at an early age being the daughter and relative in a family of ministers, especially her father, Rev. Jesse Patterson. Also, at an early age she took to music like a fish to water. She graduated from North Carolina Central University with a major in music.

Later she moved to Raleigh where she worked as a music teacher in the Wake County Public School system for about 40 years. For many years after retirement she served faithfully as a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the National Association for Music Teachers. In addition to serving as a public school teacher, she gave piano lessons and recital for hundreds of students in the Wake County area. As a member of St. Paul AME Church in Raleigh, she served as minister of music and organist. Anyone who knew Sadie Battle also knew that she was a person of deep faith. As she traveled the world, especially to the Middle East, Africa and Europe, her faith deepened even more. As a sign of demonstrating her faith she had an active lay ministry in the Church and regularly sent financial contributions to support international children ministries.

She was also very supportive of the ministries of Patterson Grove Baptist Church in King’s Creek, North Carolina where she grew up. Sadie Battle’s funeral service will be conducted at St. Paul AME Church, 402 W Edenton St, Raleigh NC 27603 On Wednesday, March 11 th at 12:00PM. The visitation starts at 11am. (Tel: 919-832-2709).
